"The Banned" are Andy Anderson and Chris Reid, an acoustic duo featuring guitars and percussion. The two musicians came together after the split of their five piece original band at the beginning of 2000. They experienced relative success during that time with both recording and live performances.

Not wanting to totally leave the music scene, Chris and Andy agreed to form a two piece cover band with the intention of entertaining private functions and live venues.

With almost a decade under their belts, "The Banned" have had numerous residencies all over Melbourne and have rocked a long list of weddings, sporting clubs and corporate functions all over Victoria. With a wide ranging song list covering all eras of music from the 50's to current-day tunes, "The Banned" are able to cater for any occasion.

Andy

Andy believes he was born to play music. This however, says Andy, never set him on the road to being a 'musician'. A self taught guitarist and singer, Andy first picked up the guitar at the age of 13 and was often seen bombarding family and friends with the latest songs he had learnt. Influences for Andy came from Bon Jovi, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Pearl Jam and locally AC/DC, Cold Chisel, Crowded House among many, many others. Andy started playing in bands at age 15, playing in numerous original and cover bands. Andy's ear for music lead him to become a 'hired gun', often filling in for bands at short notice. It was with the band 'Rust Bucket' that Andy found most of his early success as a rhythm guitarist. Although successful, rhythm guitarist is not all Andy wanted to be. It was becoming ever apparent Andy wanted to sing and his maturing voice was becoming bigger and stronger with every song. So, when 'Rust Bucket' disbanded Andy saw this as a perfect opportunity to step into the spotlight. With long time friend Chris, Andy set about putting together a set list of covers that would entertain any function from 21st's to weddings, football clubs to business style corporate functions. In the following years Chris and Andy have enjoyed more success than ever and more importantly Andy has fulfilled his dream of singing for the entertainment of others. 

Chris

Chris' earliest musical performances were in a small but rockin’ high school band, and from humble beginnings his appetite for music has grown. With a wide variety of musical interests to draw on, Chris’ adaptability means his style is ideal for all genres of music from 60’s rock to modern day melodies. In the early days Chris’ musical focus was purely as a percussionist, and this is where Chris’ heart still lies. Chris believes that his drumming has grown stronger since the early days of being “the standing drummer” through teaching his craft to others and ‘The Banned’ definitely benefits from Chris’ malleable style of drumming. Following an enjoyable stint in an original band in the early 00’s, Chris had very strong views and ideas about how live music should be, views shared and accomplished since teaming with Andy. Chris has a great ear for the current music scene, and also has now leant his hand to guitar bringing an extra dimension to ‘The Banned’.
